Red Leever (Zelda) – Crochet Plush

November 17, 2010

The pols voice sitting on my shelf was begging me to create more Zelda plushes to keep him company. Another one of my favorite enemies from Zelda is the leever. I created the base and then went to the spikes. Several model spikes were created until I settled on a pattern. I lost the pattern I had chosen originally, but made a new version. The end result is this lovely leever:

Metroid – Jack o’ Lantern

October 10, 2010

For Halloween, I couldn’t decide what I wanted to carve on my pumpkin. All my life, I have done basic faces or tried dragons or other things that you can buy patterns for. This year, I wanted to make it myself. My husband and I have been playing the game Metroid and I have fallen in love with the head-suckers. Because of this, I decided to do a metroid jack o’ lantern.

Pols Voice (Zelda) – Crochet Plush

May 27, 2010

One of my favorite enemies from Zelda is a rare one, the pols voice.

Only in a handful of games, this rabbit-ghost hybrid is neglected by the fans. Because of this, I decided to make one to sit on my shelf where he looms over my miniature octorok.

Death Star Fondant Cake

April 6, 2010

My husband is a huge Star Wars fan, so when his birthday came around, I wanted to make him something special. I decided on a lemon Death Star cake with fondant on the top. The design could have been a little more accurate, but I am pleased with the overall look of the cake.

This Was A Triumph: Portal Double Knit Scarf

March 16, 2010

Recently I had the opportunity to play Portal on the PC. I was surprised to find a large fanbase online and decided to dedicate a scarf to Portal. I used PM Stitch Creator to create my own pattern, and I used double knitting to create a thick, warm scarf.

Mega Man 1-up Fondant Cake

February 16, 2010

Another birthday came around and I wanted to make something that could be enjoyed by the geeky friends of mine, especially the birthday boy. Chris and I worked together to make a Mega Man Cake based off of this picture. We used MS Paint to blow up the picture to where we could see individual pixels and then began preparations to make the cake.

After baking the largest round chocolate cake I could, I made some white marshmallow fondant. After frosting the round, I covered it with rolled out white fondant.

I didn’t care if it was smooth because of how I was decorating, but for instructions on how to cover a round cake with fondant, go here.

Next, I enlisted the help of Chris to cut out various colors of fondant. Earlier, I went to Michaels and purchased peach, black, and blue fondant. This meant that all I had to make was the white, and the cyan/turquoise. We rolled the fondant out and cut out squares and placed them according to the 8-bit Mega Man extra life. Here is the result.

Crochet Heart Container Pillow with Pattern Link

February 14, 2010

Last year for Valentine’s Day, I cross stitched my husband a zelda-themed valentine from these patterns. We are in love with Zelda, so I wanted to keep the theme this year. Using my mad Googling skills, I found a heart pillow pattern which I have adapted into a heart container (N64 style)  to tell him he holds my heart. I used this pattern to make it.

I did have a problem with the outside edge being bigger than the edge of the hearts, so I would recommend starting from the point between the two half circles and work your way down and not sewing them shut until the end and then shoving the excess inside the heart before sewing it closed.  In order to make the pillow a heart container, I made a smaller edge than the pattern called for, using three rows instead.

Tetris Candy Cake

January 25, 2010

I have always had a love of making cakes. When I was little, my mom would let me make the birthday cakes for everyone in the family. I brought this love with me to college, and when my then-boyfriend’s birthday came around, I decided to make a nerdy cake. My search for the perfect nerdy cake brought me to Tetris. Classic!

Looking for square, colorful candies, I stumbled upon Starbursts. My purchase entailed a giant pack as well as some twisted black licorice. Once arriving home, I set to work. First the outline of licorice went on, followed by the pieces. The side pieces added the extra touch the cake needed. Only after I had make half the cake did I realize that I needed to leave holes in the puzzle in order for the rows to not disappear. I apologized to my husband, but he said the cake was perfect.

Crochet Plush – Metool/Mettaur

December 5, 2009

I was building my army of metroids when I needed a break; the head-suckers were taking over. I needed something to fight them off.  I chose the Met. With his hardhat, he won’t get his head chomped on, and he can shoot them from afar! All i have left to do for him is to add his eyes and details on his hat. I am considering giving him a pickaxe and making him a mettaur. (Scroll down to the second picture for the completed version with eyes)

He is finally finished! I couldn’t decide how I wanted to do the details on his hat and his eyes, so I played around with a few different options. These were the ones that came out the best. Sorry, but no axe for you little Metool!

Crochet Plush – Metroids!

December 1, 2009

After finishing my own pair of metroid gloves, I needed to have my own army of plush metroids. I winged it by crocheting a sphere and making my own teeth by trial and error. After stuffing and sewing all the pieces together, I had my very own shoulder metroid. He was so adorable that I decided to make more. Every one is turning out unique, but I love each one. Here is a picture of the two I have completed already and the one I am currently working on. If enough people show interest, I will work on creating a pattern.
